I have been painting since 2004. Most of my work is painted en plein air, or on location. Each time I gather my gear and head out to paint I feel as if I am off on an adventure. Mostly this turns out to be true, I am usually treated to meeting wonderful people curious about what I am creating. Sometimes, if I am painting in a remote location, I'll have a furry or feathered visitor. Recently my visitor was a large skunk, who, lucky for me, wandered off before he (or she) could do any damage.

I have a particular passion for painting nocturnes. this is always an exciting and rewarding experience. I was asked recently if it takes me all night to complete a nocturne painting. Thank goodness, no. When painting en plein air, one only has about two hours to get the painting on the canvas before the conditions change. This is true for daytime and nighttime painting. I am usually so entranced by the night, I'll try to get two paintings completed. The technique I've learned has been through the patient teaching of my mentor, Thomas Van Stein. He has generously taught myself and others the tools of the nocturne painter. I invite you to see what I am painting each month. If the weather is clear on the full moon, you can bet I am out there painting. And if the waxing crescent moon is visible on a beautiful evening, well, I'll be out there attempting to capture it's magical beauty. Visit my blog to see the latest results of my nighttime adventures.

I have studied with talented and generous artists Jordan Pope, Ray Roberts, Rick Schloss, Rick Stitch, Anita Hampton, Michael Drury, Larry Iwerks and John Budicin. I have participated in workshops in Arizona and California.

I studied commercial art at California State University, Northridge (1981-1985) and commercial illustration at  Art Center College in Pasadena, California (1983-1985).  As a graphic designer in the Los Angeles area, I worked in the film industry, and later freelanced in marketing and advertising. My commercial art portfolio.

After moving to Santa Barbara in the late ‘80’s I opened and ran Graficus Design Studio (1988-1995), serving many Southern California small businesses and large companies launching their images and brands. In 1998 I accepted a position as Art Director for the Balance Bar Company. From there I expanded my expertise to include food package design and corporate identity and went on to work for several national food industry companies. Commercial art resume.
